Launching Huck Magazine
A digital platform for the independent culture magazine celebrating counterculture movements and young change-makers.
We've launched a new platform for Huck Magazine, the bi-monthly publication covering independent culture and counterculture since 2006. Named after Mark Twain's protagonist, Huck has reported on subcultures around the world — all-female roller derby in Beirut, heavy metal in Botswana, and plenty in between.
Published by TCOLondon, Huck grew out of surf and skate roots into wider culture, politics, and activism. The brief was to build a platform that could carry long-form reportage, video, and Huck's distinctive visual approach without forcing everything through the same template.
We built a multi-format platform on Craft CMS that handles written features, video, and the magazine's photography side by side. Subcultures work as entry points into deeper articles about music, politics, and place.
Editors can tell a story in whatever format suits it — a photo essay, a video documentary, or a 3,000-word feature — without fighting the CMS to do it.
