Website development for magazines and publishers
Editors need to publish quickly, all day, without the CMS getting in the way. Publishers need a site that stays up when a story takes off and doesn’t cost a fortune the rest of the time. And underneath both sits the bigger worry: search referrals are falling as AI answers keep readers on the results page, and a publishing business built on Google traffic alone is built on ground that’s moving.
We build and run the sites for Kerrang!, Mixmag, Huck and Little White Lies on Craft CMS. That means high-volume daily publishing, enormous editorial archives, programmatic advertising and international editions, with Mixmag alone running more than nine regional versions of the site.
Preparing for a Google Zero world means meeting readers where they already are and earning revenue directly from the ones you have. We build syndication into the publishing workflow, so a piece flows out to channels like Apple News without extra work for the editor, and we build the direct relationship into the site itself: Little White Lies runs paid membership tiers with gated exclusive content, integrated through Steady, alongside its magazine subscriptions.
Where it makes sense, titles share infrastructure while keeping their identities completely distinct: Huck and Little White Lies run on one multisite build, which spreads the platform investment across both publications. And where a title has its own conventions, we build for them. Little White Lies scores every film three ways, on Anticipation, Enjoyment and In Retrospect, and its review system is designed around exactly that.
